Tri-Lobe Blowers


  • The Tri-Lobe® Blower, because of having rotor tips disposed at 120º on each rotor, causes the rotor set to be much more resistant to angular deflection along it’s length, than two lobed rotor sets, which have lobe tips disposed at 180º each – this extra “stiffness” provides less deflection at any load, thus minimizing possible rotor contact with both the cylinder and it’s sister rotor during operation.

  • This same tip orientation provides for more even load distribution between the rotor and gear sets, while under normal load cycling – this feature enhances the life of the bearings and gears – the six smaller volume chambers per revolution of the Tri-Lobe® vs. four larger chambers of the two lobe, increases the pulsation frequency, allowing pulsation magnitude to be limited, and reducing characteristic noise levels.

Design Features

  • Bearings: Spherical / cylindrical roller and ball bearing combinations; minimum 100,000 hour design life.
  • Tri-Lobe® rotors: Involute contoured impeller profiles for maximum efficiency.
  • Impeller / shaft rigidity: Reduces mechanical deflection and vibration.
  • Oil seals: Simple, non-wearing, slinger type oil seals provide positive sealing in both oil sumps. Unaffected by high temperatures. No shaft wear.
  • Air seals: Piston ring air seals provide dependable non-wearing operation to minimize air leakage past the shafts.

  • Heavy-duty and ribbed cast iron housing and end covers: Reduce noise levels and increase heat dissipation.
  • Versatile mounting: Horizontal or vertical airflow is easily achieved by relocating the removable mounting feet incorporated in models TL10 through TL120.
  • Splash oil lubrication: Assures improved bearing life and operational simplicity.
  • Gas or air is delivered in an uncontaminated, oil free state.
  • The unit may be coupled directly or driven by V-belts.
  • Rotation of the impellers is synchronized by a pair of timing gears having helical, hardened and ground teeth.

  • Either engine or electric motor drive.
  • Capable of continuous service at up to 25 in. hg gauge vacuum at sea level conditions.
  • Suitable for either direct coupling or v-belt drive.
  • With proper valving, can also be used in pressure service up to 15 psig – (pressure performance must be obtained from other data).
  • Helical gears assure proper synchronized rotor position at all times, under all loads, for long service life; heavy duty antifriction bearings are employed to extend service life, and to reduce friction to a minimum.
  • Oil lubrication is employed throughout, no grease lubricated bearings are used.
  • ANSI 125# in/out line connections are used, no threaded ports are used.
